What I read from this is that they know OpenMW exists and are encouraging us to continue on. From a legal perspective, I understand this and it is a very positive signal. If they gave us their formulas, then it would put OpenMW in a grey area of intellectual property and who 'owns' it.

So in a way, this is also acceptable (and will take us longer) but then we keep clear of any IP issues that might come up.

Well yes, nobody expected them to go thorough trouble to ask ex-developers of course, it would be insanely awesome though. As I said in another post they could give some more hints..

Anyone already tried contacting code patch author?
He can be contacted over Beth forums and nexus his username is Hrnchamd
Btw he is also author of MGE XE, someone with such Morrowind modding experience would surely be interested in this project, unless he fears all his MGE and code patch work will go to waste after OpenMW is released..

However it has been 5 months since his last activity on forums and github

I sent him an invitation to join OpenMW a month ago, but I haven't heard back. I think these things take time, but that we're making progress.
