Ogre3d GSoC

Post by psi29a »

Apparently Ogre was picked for GSoC and there are a lot of tasks in the pipeline:

OGRE engine improvements: improve the terrain system (abstract),
volume rendering with LOD (abstract),
off-screen particles and mass-spring models visualization (abstract),
and completing the Microsoft DirectX 11 render system (abstract).

Since 1.8 is now in RC mode, I'm going to assume that these are for 2.0. According to their documentation, there isn't a 1.9 version.

That could also mean that they don't have set up a page for 1.9 yet. The plans for 2.0 were written long before 1.8 or 1.7.

I would really like some improvement to Ogre on the "ease of use" end.

I changed vid cards at some point, ogre till set things up that way...and the way ogre get system information has complicated my learning. If there was some way to really automate the process of installing, configuring, setting up and getting a program to run and be built and usable - that'd get me to focus on learning the actual thing and completing projects than groaning whenever the root object complains about my system.

The 2012 GSoC is wrapping up this week, I hope Ogre's projects all got finished! I think the only one that might not get done is the particle related project.
