OpenMW 0.13.0 Released! 2012-03-28 - raevol

Hot on the heels of 0.12.0, the OpenMW team is proud to announce the release of version 0.13.0! Release packages for Ubuntu are now available via our Launchpad PPA. Release packages for other platforms are available on our Download page. This release notably includes functional NPC dialogue, and beautiful sky!

Please note:

– On OSX, the path to the application cannot contain spaces, or the launcher will not work properly.


– NPC Dialogue window and mechanics implemented
– Reimplemented sky rendering, added weather effects
– Wireframe mode added
– Fix for sounds broken in 0.12.0
– Fix for 3D sounds
– Added sounds for weather, doors, containers, picking up items, and journal
– Various code cleanup and improvements
– Fixed an Ogre crash at the Dren plantation
– Several launcher improvements
– Added fade to black effect for cutscenes
– Added backend for equipping items
– Fix to stop ASCII 16 character from being added to console on its activation in OSX
– Fixed collision shapes being out of place
– Fixed torch lights not being visible past a short distance
– Fixed some transparency rendering problems

The Week in Review 2012-03-25 - OlderTroll


You can expect the release of 0.13.0 in the near future. An impressive feat as 0.12.0 was released less than a month ago. All development for 0.13.0 finished last week and what remains is packaging, testing, and bug fixing.

Our team member, WeirdSexy, has made a wonderful demonstration video for 0.13.0.

We’ve picked up another language: Dutch!

News for 0.13.0:

gus finished dialogue tasks allowing us to get 0.13.0 released so soon. Yeah buddy!

Our wonderful packagers (K1ll and brotherbrick for linux, ace for windows, corristo for mac) are currently packing up neatly all the improvements into downloadable form for you.

Kromgart, sort of OpenMW’s masked hero, who has helped us by solving bugs hasn’t shown up on irc or spoken a single word on the forum all week

Zini completed his work on containers.

scrawl migrated OpenMW to MyGUI version 3.2. There have been large changes in MyGUI and one such change allowed scrawl to get the player arrow on the minimap working. Check it out

pvdk added a new font for the gui. Morrowind’s original pixel font is still not really usable. If you come to our site often, you’ll notice we changed our front page to the new font as well. It looks very good in game with a great variety of glyphs for all the languages. Our team members especially love the capital Q.

Chris continues on the large sound rewrite. He is VERY effective and is making some great progress.

Jhooks1 made good progress on the physics (but we can’t guarantee when it will be finished).

All of you know what’s this anyway 2012-02-26 - sir_herrbatka

The 0.12.0 is near. Actually only package testing has left, well unless something goes wrong again. Lgro had a lot of struggle with libboost ─ it worked in different ways depending on version. Finally solution has been found and to this point It seems that morrowind path finding finally works as it should.

Scrawl started to work on skybox and weather implementations and soon after got very good results. So good that actually Zini started to think about moving skybox to openmw 0.13.0, even if weather still will be unfinished just because sky looks awesome on its own and most certainly It will be ready on time. I must say that I’m very happy since We finally can get rid of cealum that didn’t do what morrowind sky needs to have and is a fps-killer.

Sadly no chance for terrain rendering in 0.13.0. Water+Terrain+Sky would be so awesome, but It won’t happen before 0.14.0.

Jhooks1 is digging in few places and sometimes findings are ugly. Remember Project Aedra physics? Ultimately it seems that the problem cannot be solved by simply tuning few values. It looks like we are about to see a lot of recoding in our physics implementation.

OTOH jhooks1 was also messing with animations, and maybe finally the performance stopper was found. Needs testing. Meanwhile you can see this video

Also it’s worth to mention that another crashing bug was solved. Heart in the Akulakhan’s Chamber is different then all other creatures and that proved to be a little nasty. But it’s fixed now. Bravo Jhooks1!
